Bureau's Website Launched

The NPEAB's Website <http://www.npeab.gov.au/> was officially launched on the occasion of the November meeting of the Bureau's Advisory Panel, by Commander Bruce Johnston representing Commissioner Peter Ryan of NSW Police Service.

Commander Johnston said that the launch was the culmination of partnership between the Bureau and the Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC) which was engaged by the Bureau to design and maintain the Website for the following three years. Commander Johnston described the Website as a "new and exciting chapter in the life of the Bureau". He said that the Bureau had reached a stage when it can proudly share its experience and knowledge in the police management of cultural and linguistic diversity with the rest of the world: "By having its Website, the Bureau effectively opens its doors to the world and in doing so, it facilitates international networking with other practitioners in the field, and encourages global exchange of information and ideas".

Mr. John Myrtle, Principal Librarian with AIC, was the person responsible for the intitial design of the Website which he described as a "no frills, user friendly and practical site which will enrich the field of knowledge pertaining to police and ethnic relations".

The Website provides comprehensive information on the background of the NPEAB and gives full text versions of various publications produced by the Bureau, latest news and links to other related sites.

By working closely with AIC the Bureau is determined to keep its Website dynamic and current. Police and ethnic youth relations will feature strongly in the future.
